Desolate Days II
Desolate Days II (2020)
Woodblock print

This work is visual depiction of the emotions felt during the periods of isolation humanity went through during the coronavirus pandemic. The looming sensations of loneliness, death, destruction and sorrow surrounded life at that time, and this woodblock print seeks to capture those desolate days. The dark sphere symbolises a black earth, with souls living and rising from the surface. It is also reminiscent of the shape of the virus – its spiked, crown like exterior – which captured so much of our existence and caste a shadow upon it for several years. The artist seeks to represent the dark and destructive power of nature in this woodblock print and show humanity’s vulnerability.
